Love it or hate it, a new The Elder Scrolls Online game has been announced. The game set for 2013 for PC and Mac will be under charge of Matt Firor, who is said to be an MMO expert of about 20 or so year and was very active with Dark Age of Camelot.

The multiplayer game will be in a third person perspective; work like most MMO’s with a hotbar that can be customized out of battle and will include most of Tamriel’s universe. Apparently, the game’s combat will not be in real-time ‘due to latency’. A detailed rundown of most major implementations can be found in this NeoGAF thread. Until then, enjoy a non-descript teaser trailer that is nowhere near the rousing ambience of the Skyrim reveal trailer.

If well done, The Elder Scrolls Online could set a new standard both for the franchise and the MMO world. Since a social aspect of Skyrim is sharing stories with fellow gamers, why not create a universe in which this can be done actively? Of course, that is only if that same ambience is captured. It certainly will have some huge shoes to fill in order to attain Skyrim’s level of acclaim, after that title received numerous Game of the Year awards.
